What You Will Learn

Embark on an enchanting journey into the realm of light with our immersive two-day photography workshop.

Led by the acclaimed photographer Peter Solness.

Over two days, participants will uncover Peter’s spellbinding secrets, learning to wield light as their artistic

medium to sculpt mesmerising scenes from the darkness.

Throughout the course, attendees will engage in a dynamic blend of theory and practice, honing their

technical skills and unleashing their creative potential. Under Peter’s expert guidance, attendees will master

essential tools and techniques for painting with light, creating visual drama, and playing with illumination

to craft magical masterpieces. From capturing nocturnal landscapes to processing images in Photoshop,

participants will receive comprehensive instruction to unlock their creative potential.

Peter will impart invaluable insights into capturing the essence of the photographic narrative and conveying

emotion through imagery. The course structure fosters a collaborative learning environment where

What You Need to Bring

• A Digital Camera which can be manually operated and fully charged batteries.

(Please Note: Fully automatic or Smart Phone cameras are not suitable.)

• Warm clothes and sturdy shoes

• A head torch if you have one (I will supply small hand torches if you have no head torch)

• A tripod and a laptop with Photoshop for the 2nd day computer session.

Day 1, 1st Evening, 13 Sept 2024

• An audio-visual presentation of how to create great light-painted images.

• Discussions about the principles of night photography and the recommended lights and equipment required to create stunning night-time images. (All torches and light tools are supplied.)

• An initial session playing with lighting effects such as orbs and rainbow lights and photographing

various props inside to gain confidence working with your equipment in the dark.

Day 2 and 2nd Evening, 14 Sept 2024

Meet at the School of Arts Hall in Delegate, where Murray and Peter will guide you through a Photoshop session where you’ll learn the post-production secrets to make your evenings creations glow.

Travel to a Shearing Shed near Delegate and apply the skills developed from the 1st evening session
as you bring to life the character of an Australian shearing shed. Peter will guide you in ways of ensuring the best results as you ‘paint’ the surrounds with torchlight.
